Publication Ethics
JBIDAI publishes scientific articles resulting from original research that have not been previously published. This statement of scientific code of ethics applies to all parties involved in the scientific publication process, including journal managers, editors, peer reviewers, and authors. The statement is based on the Head Regulation of LIPI Number 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications, which upholds three core ethical values in publication, namely:
(i) Neutrality, which means being free from conflicts of interest in publication management;
(ii) Fairness, which means granting authorship rights to those who deserve to be recognized as authors; and
(iii) Honesty, which means being free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism in publication.
Duties and Responsibilities of Journal Managers
1. Determine the journal's name, scope, publication frequency, and accreditation if necessary.
2. Appoint editorial board members.
3. Define relationships between the publisher, editors, peer reviewers, and other parties.
4. Respect confidentiality of contributors, authors, editors, and peer reviewers.
5. Implement norms and regulations related to intellectual property rights, particularly copyright.
6. Review journal policies and communicate them to authors, editors, peer reviewers, and readers.
7. Provide a code of conduct for editors and peer reviewers.
8. Publish the journal regularly.
9. Ensure funding availability for sustainable journal publication.
10. Build networks and marketing strategies.
11. Continuously improve the journal’s quality.
12. Prepare legal permits and other related legal matters.
Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
1. Provide feedback on the manuscript to help readers understand the author's intent through comments on the text.
2. Ensure that the manuscript follows proper language standards (in accordance with EYD or the journal's language standards).
3. Strive for continuous improvement in the quality of publications.
4. Prioritize objectivity and freedom of expression.
5. Issue corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary.
6. Ensure that the manuscript does not contain any content related to SARA (ethnicity, religion, race, inter-group issues) or anything that may harm the publisher, and coordinate with the editor-in-chief if the manuscript is potentially controversial.
7. Receive, review, and respond to complaints from all parties involved in the journal's publication.
8. Support initiatives to educate researchers on publication ethics.
9. Avoid holding personal opinions, or those of the authors or third parties, that could lead to biased decisions.
10. Encourage authors to revise their manuscripts until they meet the standards for publication.
11. Format manuscripts according to the journal template.
12. Assist the editor-in-chief in finalizing the manuscript collection before printing and publishing, especially regarding language, formatting, and layout.
Duties and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers
1. Assigned by the editor to review manuscripts and provide feedback as a basis for determining the manuscript's eligibility for publication.
2. Must not review manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest, whether directly or indirectly.
3. Maintain the confidentiality of the authors and not disclose any review results, suggestions, or recommendations, while providing constructive feedback.
4. Encourage authors to improve their manuscripts.
5. Re-review revised manuscripts based on established standards.
6. Conduct timely reviews according to the journal's style and scientific standards (including data collection methods, author credibility, conclusions, etc.).
Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
1. Ensure that all listed authors meet the criteria for authorship.
2. Take collective responsibility for the content of the article, including methods, analysis, calculations, and details.
3. Declare the source of research funding, both direct and indirect.
4. Disclose any limitations in the research.
5. Respond professionally and promptly to peer reviewer comments.
6. Notify the editor if they intend to withdraw their manuscript.
